Sermon Series: Reimagine
Luke 6:57-62 October 7, 2018 Pastor's message last night was powerful. He talked about how learning to make and keep Commitments builds Character in us, Godly Character. The Word says that God disciplines those He loves. Jesus was the most Committed Disciplined person who ever lived on this earth. Thank God He disciplines us! It is especially important to those from broken homes, or who didn't know their parent(s), or who had bad experiences as children. To those who never had a good Father example to learn from or receive discipline from.
As a child, I used to resent discipline because it was not given in a Godly way. It was done overbearingly, in anger, and with violence. It created fear and rebellion in us among other things. It was practically impossible to have a normal relationship with our Father because of his lack of understanding. (I don't think he knew the Lord, maybe) It has taken almost a lifetime to let go of the bitter memories, the scars and feelings it created in my fragile spirit. It even made it difficult for me to relate to God, Our Heavenly Father, for the longest time when I was a new Christian.
As the years passed, I began to understand that when God disciplines us, it's with Love and is done for our well being. It is so important that we, as adults, as parents, learn how to accept discipline from the Lord without rebellion and to teach our children the same. We will never be perfect like Jesus but we can try our best each day to be more like Him and turn to The Cross when we need help or forgiveness. The Lord has kept His Commitment to me in everyway. He laid down His life for me at the Cross. What more could He do? He has walked beside me everyday since I accepted Him as my personal savior, 32 years ago. Now, its my turn to show Him I am Committed to Him as well. 🙏
